3 Things You Can Do to Prepare Yourself for Alzheimer’s

We know you don’t want to get Alzheimer’s. Neither do we. But we can’t deny that this is a disease with no known cure, no prevention we can count on to work 100 percent of the time, and no permanent treatment.

As Alanna Shaikh puts it in this poignant TED Talk, “If the monster wants you, the monster’s gonna get you.”

Shaikh has spent years watching her father “disappear” from dementia. And now she’s decided to take a different approach in her own life. Rather than waiting patiently for researchers to develop a better treatment or prevention plan, she’s preparing her body and mind to develop the disease and live peacefully with it.

Luckily, Shaikh’s tips—at least some of them—are surprisingly easy. Watch the video below to find out how simple changes in your attitude, daily activities, and hobbies could make life easier for you and your caretakers if and when you develop Alzheimer’s disease.
