Austin Ellis Opens Up About His Grandfather

Austin Ellis, a former contestant on NBC’s hit reality show “The Voice”, knows Alzheimer’s well. His grandfather passed away from the disease just before Austin’s blind audition on “The Voice”.

In the following video clip, Austin talks about how he and his best friend from college both lost their grandfathers to Alzheimer’s at the same time. It was through this discussion that Austin realized that “it felt like a release… I was happy for him, that he was no longer trapped in this mind and body that was no longer serving him.”

The last time he saw his grandfather, Austin played a song, and they had what Austin calls a “musical conversation.” Hear more about that moment between Austin and his grandfather in the video.
